The Players in Football

Each football team comprises eleven players playing on the field, at a given time. Teams will also typically have a reserve team standing by at the sidelines should the coach or team manager decide to substitute any member of the team or in the event of an injury to a player currently playing on the field.
Each team will usually have a captain who will be involved in the coin toss at the start of the game to determine which side of the field their team will be playing or before the start of penalties to decide which team goes first. Any player in any position may assume the mantle of captain. Teams generally have three types of players according to their position in the field i.e. forward or attacking, midfield and defence. The number of the players in these positions depend on the football strategy or formation determined by the coach.
